THE
HAPPY PRINCE by Oscar Wilde
Starring ORESTE CASTAGNA (for young audiences)
This
production is adapted from one of Oscar Wilde's beautiful fairy tales.
It is the story of a profound friendship between a swallow and a statue
of a prince covered with precious jewels. This friendship evolves into
love and they become bittersweet accomplices. In spite of the impending
arrival of winter, the swallow stays to help the prince distribute his
riches to the poor and disinherited of the city.
GEOFF
HOYLE
A HOYLE IN ONE
Working
in classic commedia fashion, the clown Geoff Hoyle and his "midwife" --
as the director Tony Taccone dubs himself -- give birth to antic entertainments
that are hard to categorize. "I would call it clown ballet," says Taccone,
the artistic director of the Berkeley Repertory Theatre, where the duo's
latest opus, The
First Hundred Years, was produced.
IMAGO
THEATRE Production of FROGZ
Imago's unusual images and creatures
show shades of humanity in the world of the fantastic:
a larval insect performs impossible acrobatic feats; a human shadow bursts
into flames; a sphere transforms from an eggplant to boulder to
circus performer. This creates in the viewer a sense of
wonder reminding us all of our common link we share with
animals, objects and phenomena in our universe. Like futuristic magicians,
Imago playfully distorts the scientific laws of our world
and creates illusions that tickle a funny bone in our
sense of "what we think to be true".
TOM
MURPHY in "MetaMURPHosis"
Mr. Murphy's performance might
be best described as a synthesis of the European clown and the classic
American physical comedian. It is an impetuous journey into the world
of MURPH, a selfless, self-conscious, guilt-ridden, Catholic, solo entertainer
of the 90's. He will entertain you, he must entertain you...at
any cost! It is up front, honest to goodness, in your face and at the
same time sensitive physical comedy!
JOSEPH
MYDELL
"OLIVIER AWARD WINNER" as Paul Laurence Dunbar
in:
LYRICS OF THE HEARTHSIDE
A brilliant one-man show
based on the work of the foremost black writer of the 19th century. Winner
of "The Scotsman Fringe First Award" at the Edinburgh Festival.
Joseph Mydell creates an evocative portrayal of both the poet and turn-of-the-century
America.
