The Graphic on the front page of
our Arts-In-Education Flier !
This is a 40 minute in-school presentation that involves 4 pieces from the full two-hour LAZER VAUDEVILLE show, and is designed to be educational, as well as entertaining and inspiring. The presentation has scientific, musical, mathematical, and historical curriculum tie-ins. Varied programs are available for all ages K-12. We need an auditorium, cafeteria, or gym that is capable of getting a black-out, or at least a gray-out. Black plastic over the windows usually does the job. We need 1/2 hour to set-up, and 1/2 hour to take our equipment out of the building. We bring real lasers into the school, as well as blacklights, and request that students be clear of the area as we are setting-up.
"Bernie" the old man that
was really there in the Vaudeville Days !
Played by Jeff Taub, master mask maker, and graduate of The Dell'Arte School of Physical Theatre. The presentation starts off with "Bernie" the old man that was "really there" in the Vaudeville Days. He gives a historical perspective to the presentation, talking about how Vaudeville led to the development of records, radio, silent films, and finally "talkies" and TV.
Cindy Marvell performs 3, 4, then 5 ball
juggling !
Cindy Marvell is the first woman ever to win the International Juggling Association Championship Title ! The New York Times says "she juggles like a poet". After her performance she talks about how important practice and dedication are to any discipline, whether it be music, athletics, or juggling.
The "Neon Cowboy" performs
rope-spinning in the blacklight !
Played by Carter Brown, the founder of LAZER VAUDEVILLE, the rope-spinning is a wonderful demonstration of the cycles per second ( 60Hz ) that electricity takes, and a practical application of physics principles as well. This is followed by turning the blacklights on the audience so students can see some of their own clothes glowing ! An explanation of the innerworkings of blacklight is also included.
Helium-neon lasers right there in the assembly
!
This is usually the first encounter students have on an educational level with lasers. We perform one of the laser pieces from the show. This is followed by a scientific explanation of how the lasers work.
All three performers join together for the
finale of passing 10 juggling clubs !
This is a routine that is state-of-the-art as far as club passing goes. It also give a great lead-in for probabilities, skill and other discussions in the classroom later on.
