If you saw Jonathan Demme's feature film PHILADELPHIA,
you may remember their fabulous a cappella version of "Mr. Sandman"
as the highlight of the costume-party scene. Or perhaps you remember them
as the subject of the HBO documentary "WHY AM I GAY?".
Maybe you saw them on DONAHUE or GOOD MORNING, AMERICA;
heard them on NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO; or even read about them in ENTERTAINMENT
WEEKLY. Better yet, you may have actually seen them perform live
somewhere! ("THE FLIRTATIONS cause a sensation wherever they perform!"-GAY
COMMUNITY NEWS)
Perhaps it was a San Francisco street corner, or at a large concert hall
somewhere in North America or Europe--perhaps even in CARNEGIE HALL! ("THE
FLIRTATIONS could single-handedly make a cappella hip and hot again!"--THE
WASHINGTON POST)
-
"The Flirts", as they're known to their avid fans around the world,
have been bringing audiences and critics to their feet since they started
singing together seven years ago. ("We haven't had such an excited
viewer response to a segment in years. After the Flirts sang, the switchboard
lit up with
new fans for the rest of the day!"--Mitch Gallob, Producer, GOOD
MORNING, AMERICA For beyond their glorious voices, their shimmering
harmonies, and their palpable joy at being gay, it's their "irresistible
sense of humor" -THE LOS ANGELES TIMES) that makes them so totally
entertaining. ("These four so clearly love being onstage, they make
everybody want to join thefun."
--THE BOSTON GLOBE)
And though they love begging for dates and having fun with their straight
fans, they also like to talk about their childhoods--surviving name-calling,
sexual abuse, and loneliness--and about coming out, racism, love, and politics,
not to mention their recent "sex change"--the addition of the
first-ever woman to the group! ("They call themselves 'The Fabulous
Flirtations' and Saturday night they were!"--PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER)
("An extraordinary a cappella group!" SPIN)
They'll Make you gigle they'll make you scream. They'll make you sit back
in awe. They may even make you cry. But mostly they'll make you want to
run to your friends to ask if they've ever heard of the FABULOUS FLIRTATIONS!
Their live performances have created a network of loyal fans -gay and straight-
across North America and Europe. For beyond thier obvious joy at being gay,
their glorious voices and shimmering harmonies, their intrcate arrangements
and powerfull repetoire; it is thier irresistable humor that makes totally
entertaining they like nothing more than taking old doo-wop
classics and bending the words to suit their purpose. "Mr. Sandman,
send me a dream, Make him the cutest boy I've ever seen."
An all male group that began singing on the streets of Greenwich Village
in 1988, the pioneering group has recently undergone a sex change with nationally
acclaimed vocalist SUEDE recent winner of the well-publicized lawsuit against
the Sony Corporation and "The LONDON SUEDE" for trademark infringement.
She joins group founder Jon Arterton and veteran Jimmy Rutland.
