The UHH Theatre welcomes internationally known puppeteer Jim Gamble and
His Puppets back for his fourth annual residency. Marionette circus acts
performed to calliope and circus band music occupy the center ring in The
Greatest Little Show on Earth. The production features animal acts,
a weight lifter, trapeze artist, clowns, and a loquacious ringmaster to
direct the action. A hungry lion adds to the lists of puppets in this popular
production that has toured Hawaii, Korea, and Japan. Jim Gamble has entertained
thousands of Hawaii's keiki and received numerous awards for his puppet
videos. He is an internationally-known puppeteer and director of the Los
Angeles-based Gamble Puppet Productions. Providing over 1500 marionette
shows annually, he has become famous for his intricate marionette designs
and his upbeat style of performance. Large colorful marionettes exhibit
their amusing personalities and unique tricks against a background of lively
music while the puppeteer performs in full view of the audience.
As an active contributor to the American Puppetry tradition, Gamble handcrafts
all the puppet figures using new materials and innovative designs to keep
his productions fresh for audiences.
Mr. Gamble's guest appearance is part of the UHH Theatre's continuing effort
to bring quality performance for the children of Hawaii.
This program is funded, in part, by a special grant from the State Foundation
on Culture and the Arts.
