KENNY ENDO
Taiko Ensemble of Tokyo

Synthesizing traditional Japanese drumming techniques, world musical rhythms
and western jazz percussion styles, taiko master Kenndy Endo is a leading
force in contemporary taiko performance in the U.S. and Japan. The Kenny
Endo Taiko Ensemble of Tokyo plays original compositions for taiko and other
Japanese traditional instruments such as the 17-string bass koto (zither)
and bamboo flutes highlighting the new dimensions Mr. Endo is bringing to
an old Japanese art.
Kenny Endo currently resides on Oahu and maintains an active international
performing schedule. The Kenny Endo Taiko Ensemble of Tokyo features master
drummer Kenny Endo on the odaiko (large Japanese drum) and Japanese percussion;
Yoshinori Nome, one of Japan's top Latin percussionists; Kyosuke Suzuki,
master of Japanese festival music and woodwinds; and Hideaki Kuribayashi,
innovative bass kotoist. In addition, Mr. Endo will be touring with other
members of his local ensemble. This will be the Tokyo based ensemble's debut
performance in the United States.
The tour is being coordinated by the Performing Arts Presenters of Hawaii
and sponsored by the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii (JCCH) - funded
in part by a grant from the Japan Foundation-Performing Arats Japan. The
purpose of the tour is to promote Japanese performing arts in the United
States and facilitate American understanding of Japanese culture, thereby
contributing to meaningful U.S. - Japan relations.
