BOB BERKY

Bob Berky is very, very, funny.

This Clown Has Class

Bob Berky is a clown -- a theatrical clown, using only physical movement, the power of suggestion, and the somehow understandable blurtings of a kazoo to convey his madcap messages to the audience. His mime and clowning gifts are those of a master craftsman, endearingly silly at times, subtle at others. His show concentrates on idiosyncrasies known to us all. He illustrates what a consummate performer can achieve with only a suitcase full of tricks. This is comic invention at its best.

Bob Berky has performed as a solo artist at theatres, universities and music and theatre festivals throughout the world. In New York, he has appeared at Dance Theatre Workshop, Lincoln Center, The Brooklyn Academy of Music, and Off-Broadway with Michael Moschen. He was awarded an OBIE, and was the winner of The Kennedy Center's New American Plays Award. His television appearances include specials on PBS, Canal Plus, MTV, Disney and Nickelodeon. He has taught at numerous universities and theaters, including The Juilliard School, Brandeis University, the North Carolina School for the Arts, and Smith College. He has also worked extensively as a teaching and performing artist with the Lincoln Center Institute in New York.

Critical Response

"Laughter it was. Unadulterated, uninhibited roars of hysteria, mind you,...and the "magician" who transcended all age, culture and language barriers to reduce the lot of us to a convulsing mass was Bob Berky." -Hong Kong Festival Review

"Some liken his style to those of Marcel Marceau, Red Skelton and Danny Kaye, but I see him as part outlandish Robin Williams, part poke-fun-at-herself Lucille Ball."
-Washington Post

"It was wonderful old-fashioned vaudeville, a style of comedy that has virtually disappeared from our theaters and television." -Syracuse Herald-Journal

"Berky squeezes laughter from people like juice from an orange." -Express-News

"The mark of a truly great clown is his ability to be both loved and laughed at. Bob Berky displayed that ability to perfection." -The Washington Post

"Berky is an inspired clown." - The New York Times
