ETHEL
MERMAN'S BROADWAY Estimated Technical Requirements "Ethel
Merman 's Broadway" is not a yellow card attraction, however, Presenter agrees
to provide the qualified lighting and sound staff as specified. While the labor
estimates and technical requirements outlined below may vary with local house
conditions and/or union rules, it is agreed that Presenter is responsible for
the total cost of fulfilling these technical requirements. All technical
elements must be set out and ready to be examined by the Company's staff upon
arrival. STAGE REQUIREMENTS: Presenter agrees to provide the
following scenic elements and props: - 1. One stuffed, winged-back chair
with two matching pillows, approximately 11/2' square. The chair's color may be
dark red, dark blue, dark green or an unobtrusive pattern. NOTE: Due to differences
in chair heights and softness at different venues, chair may need to be raised
approximately 1 to 2 inches off floor. Raising can be done with two by fours at
the legs or any other method agreed upon by Technical Director of venue and the
Production Stage Manager.
- 2. One small, dark wood or black table (approx.
2' in diameter by approx. 3' high) to be placed behind the chair for props.
- 3.
One standard card table to be placed behind the piano for props.
- 4. One small,
dark wood or black end table for water glasses.
- 5. Two (2) crystal-like water
glasses, approximately four inches (4") high. Tumblers are acceptable, however,
bar glasses are not. Water and chopped ice are needed for performance.
- 6.
Glow tape or white tape to mark floor.
- 7. Three (3) potted plants, approximately
six feet (6) high.
- 8. Floor needs to be entirely smooth and devoid of holes
or slat openings as Ms. McKenzie performs in high heeled shoes.
- 9. Two food
props are necessary per performance: 1 plastic container of French onion dip (or
jalapeno dip) and 1 box of dip crackers (i.e, Nabisco Sociables, Vegetable Thins,
or Ritz). NOTE: Dip and crackers are passed out on a plastic tray (tray provided
by the show) through the audience.
IF ORCHESTRA IS USED FOR PERFORMANCE:
- 10. Approximately 8 chairs, music stands and music stand lights will be needed
(actual number of chairs to be determined by Production Stage Manager). These
chairs and stands will be set up in the space from in back of the piano to upstage
cyclorama or curtain.
MASKING AND DRAPERIES: - 1. Two
(2) or three (3) sets of black travelers.
- 2. Grand curtain is preferred over
a guillotine curtain.
- 3. Cyclorama is required, although a black curtain can
be used if cyclorama is unavailable.
ELECTRICS: NOTE: ETHEL
MERMAN'S BROADWAY PROVIDES A LIGHTING PLOT WITH HOOKUP CHARTS WHICH WILL BE SENT
TO YOU UNDER SEPARATE COVER. ETHEL MERMAN'S BROADWAY has approximately 75
lighting cues depending upon lighting inventory and venue. Presenter agrees to
provide the following lighting elements: Three lighting elements are required
under any circumstances: - 1. A pin is needed to illuminate the music
placed on top of the piano for the pianist. This spot will be hooked up separate
from the dimmer board so it will not be affected by changes in the cues.
- 2.
An offstage worklight is required for Ms. McKenzie before entrances and after
exits.
- 3. Two (2) spotlights are needed for the performance.
If your
venue cannot accommodate the lighting plot, the following requirements become
appropriate: - 1. No-color pink and no-color blue front of house washes
focused between pianist and edge of chair.
- 2. Three (3) specials focused from
front of house (not overhead) and backlit with one instrument (all no-color blue).
- A. On chair (while performer is seated from feet to top of head and not
wider than the arms of chair.)
- B. At center stage.
- C. At crook of piano.
- 3. Strips of blue, red and medium amber on cyclorama, if available. If
no cyclorama is available lighting will have to be directed onto the back black
curtains from the middle and sides of the upstage lighting positions.
- 4. Cross
hatch lighting is necessary from the upper lighting positions offstage right and
left ant to the other side of the stage.
- 5. A backlighting wash is necessary
on the downstage playing area (light lavender color).
PIANO: One
baby, or grand piano (tuned to A-440) and standard piano bench. The piano must
be covered by a black fabric to reduce reflections onto the cyclorama and to protect
the piano from props. SOUND: Presenter agrees to provide the
following sound elements: - 1. Cordless lavalier microphone with a brand
new alkaline Duracell battery to be inserted 1/2 hour prior to performance. A
nickel-cadmium battery is unacceptable. Ms. McKenzie's microphone needs an "insertable
compressor" to handle her vocal range. Also, the clip for the microphone
should enable the microphone to be in a vertical position on the front of Ms.
McKenzie's costume.
- 2. A reel to reel tape recorder for sound effects.
- 3.
Two (2) onstage monitors for Ms. McKenzie and one (1) onstage monitor for the
pianist with a separate volume and mix. A slight reverberation is needed for Ms.
McKenzie's monitors.
- 4. Miking for the piano.
- 5. Slight reverberation
is needed in house sound.
Sound requirements if ORCHESTRA is used for
performance: - 1. Monitor required for orchestra. This monitor
will require a separate volume and mix (for voice and piano).
- 2. Additional
orchestra audio needs will need to be determined as per venue by discussion between
Production Stage Manager, venue's Technical Director and Sound Director before
day of performance.
DRESSINGROOMS: Presenter agrees to provide
the following: - 1. Separate dressing rooms for Ms. McKenzie and her
pianist. Each dressing room must have bathroom, sink, 2 sets of towels and face
cloths, a dressing table with mirror, a rug for the make-up areas, and all surfaces
must be cleaned in advance. The pianist's dressing room must have a couch and
a fold-up bed.
- 2. A separate key to the dressing rooms to secure the room
during performance.
THERE MUST BE NO SMOKING BACKSTAGE OR IN THE DRESSING
ROOM AREAS. LOCAL LABOR: ETHEL MERMAN'S BROADWAY takes
approximately three hours to set up and focus. The "out" takes approximately
one hour after the final performance. The estimated labor requirements are: Carpenters Electricians Sound Backstage | Load-in
1 3-4 1 0 | Show
Call 0 3* 1 1 (Curtain) | Load-out
1 3 1 0 | *If no spotlights
are available the number of running crew is reduced by one (1). The focus
will take place the day of the performance with the Production Stage Manager.
Focus time will be coordinated with the Production Stage Manager prior to the
engagement. The Presenter is responsible for the supervision of the load-in
and load-out of lights, sound, staff and masking (all provided by the Presenter).
This is time consuming and must be done prior to the arrival of the company. Props
provided by the company will be supervised by the Production Stage Manager. TECHNICAL
REHEARSAL: Same labor requirements as running crew: 3 hours the day
of the performance to set light cues, follow spot cues and check sound. Technical
rehearsal time will be set with the Production Manager prior to the engagement. ARTIST
REHEARSAL: At some venues Artist may need a room with a piano (upright
will do) for rehearsal before the show (during the technical set-up). Production
Stage Manager will confer with Technical Director of the venue before performance
date to arrange for this rehearsal space.
