Born in Los Angeles of Danish parents, Mr. Bjornkjaer completed his initial training at the Royal Conservatory in Aarhus, Denmark. Then followed two years as a student of Victor Liberman, the concertmaster of the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. While in the Netherlands, Mr. Bjornkjaer received grants from Queen Margrethe of Denmark and from the Danish National Bank, which enabled him to enroll at the Juilliard School in New York. Following his graduation from Juilliard in 1990, Mr. Bjornkjaer completed advanced studies as a student of Dorothy DeLary and Masao Kawasaki. Mr. Bjornkjaer has toured Scandinavia with collaborative pianist, Rohan De Silva. The duo has also toured in the United States where they have impressed audiences from coast to coast. Mr. Bjornkjaer adds to his performances engagements with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and was invited to be the guest soloist with the Copenhagen Phiharmonic and the Meininger Residenz Orchestra. He is also a member of the Belgian Chamber Orchestra. In early 1994 he performed with the Royal Danish Orchestra as soloist. He has also performed on Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Dutch, German and Portugese radio. Lars Bjornkjaer counts among the many awards and honors received by him, the Gold Medal in the Danish national Competition in 1986 and the Jacob Gade prize for young, outstanding musicians in 1987. His most recent honor was to be knighted by Queen Margrethe for his accomplishments as an outstanding musician and artist in Denmark.
